In 2019 I was fortunate enough to hike the iconic Kokoda Track, Papua New Guinea.
The scenery along the track is simply breath taking and the WWII history is awe inspiring.
Hiking
Kokoda is every bit as brutal as you may have heard. We hiked about
130km in seven days. This included many side tracks where we explored
jungle covered battle fields and saw live ordnance still in situ from
1942.
Our trek leader, Peter, regaled us with many stories along the track of battles, heartbreak and incredible endurance and bravery.
I
had read many books on the Kokoda and beaches battles over the years
however nothing could compare to hiking the actual track and seeing
where these amazing events took place.
It is quite simply a beautiful and brutal experience to hike Kokoda. One that I would highly recommend to anyone.
